RE: THE NEXT BIG THING - THE OBESITY EPIDEMIC |
Los Angeles and CA are home to the birthplace of eating trends |
Watch the Food Network aghast at the likes of Ina Garten and Paula Pork Butt who celebrate their fatness and invite the viewer to live vicariously through every bite of their fatty garbage..Garten's husband was Dean Of Yale Biz School -you'd think he'd have the smarts to eat right - but Noooooo- on most shows he's there eating everything off his plate just like a good little mama's boy -starving children in China notwithstanding (unless he purges the minute the camera is off! lol)-
They are all waddling down to the bank making serious ka-ching anyway... Ray, is the top in syndication, and just got renewed for 2 more years..Oprah can't put down the doritos but picked up ray's contract in a hurry and Ray is anything but heallthy eating...
I don't think the obesity crisis will get fixed -people are more ACCEPTING of their largesse ie the Tyra Banks Show where they tell America it's okay now to be chubby..the big pharma can sell you more stuff -ya see? They don't want to solve it - they can make so much more money selling you MORE food not less...
that Seattle restaurant is the EXCEPTION (smarter city versus a Rochester NY) - hey LA could not support a no fat restaurant home of the eating disorders of America... what chance does a blue collar donut city have?
Los Angeles and CA are home to the birthplace of eating trends- it starts there...
I used to eat regularly at a place called Gratis in Brentwood - all low/no fat fresh ingredients fare, with homemade fat free desserts - I ate next to Michael Eisner regularly as he had bypass and had to eat there! Every actress you know ate there...every cute young girl in LA ate there yet it went under...
Rachel Ray came under fire for shilling for dunkin donuts...no matter... it's all about the bucks and I'd buy BWLD vs NTRI. these days..it's cool to eat BAD - Joe Kernan brags about loving Taco Bell - TACO BELL!
I personally do not understand the entire concept of FAST food..what's the point? Yet, I think that's a big part of fat america. I am curious to know if you do eat fast food do you eat on premise or take out? In my house hunting days there were times I had to meet agents in such establishments- where I kindly turned down lunch..lol Just walking into one of those establishments ( children behaving badly, everybody yellling, the din was pain threshhold!) made me yearn for the days of the soda fountains of my youth.
(OT: Anybody remember the open faced turkey sandwich? at least the desserts were homemade...the portions weren't crazy either. ) But I own MCD now..why fight the trend? America has lost its battle with their bulge. Maybe CAKE is a buy..huge portions...
...See who is shopping in WMT- they make NO attempt at losing the weight- look in their carts - out of control eating.
WMT. Or Costco.
As for retail, I shop at Christopher and Banks -or I used to - as they informed me they no longer carry my size...but they recently opened their new plus size store and gave me a coupon!
Even the medical side is now changing their tune - recent research suggests being slightly overweight is actually healthier than underweight... it's the morbidly obese they are targetting and the ones prone to diabetes...Myabe they'll make planes for the obese and separate health clinics
OT: How did your daughter do on her real estate purchase - was it in Seattle or Portland?
Happy trading, and good luck ! |
